Lucas: I’m Lucas Oliveira, musician, and guitarist for the project “4 por 4 – Escuta essa Dança”.
Rodrigo: My name is Rodrigo and I’m a tap dancer.
Daniel: Daniel Del Carpio, I play drums in the group.
Ale: Alexandre Barros Brant Carvalho, I’m the bass player in the show.
Alexandre: My name is Alexandre Gonçalves Peres, I’m guitarist in the show “4 por 4”.
Ana Luiza: My name is Ana Luiza Yosetake and I’m a tap dancer.
Renata: I’m Renata Defina, tap dancer at Cia. Pé na Tábua.
Daniel: I remember one day at the hotel, shortly before getting into the van, heading to the performance venue. Suddenly: “Where’s my shoe?”
Ale: I said: “I’m going to test this safe”. I took his shoe, put it in the safe and closed it. We had to call reception for them to use a drill in the safe.
Alexandre: There was a whole mobilization of the hotel. It was a mess until I managed to save the shoe so we could go out and play.
Daniel: A very particular situation.
Ale: Anyway…
What is the show “4 for 4 – Listen to this Dance?
Lucas: For me the show is something innovative.
Rodrigo: It is a moment of exchange between us and the musicians. Between us from the stage and the audience.
Ale: Encounter.
Alexandre: For music to happen we must feel it in the body.
Ale: We connected through the sound.
Renata: We used to enter with a very attentive ear, very open to listen, for this dialogue between us.
Ana Luiza: For me, improvisation is also about vulnerability, about exposure, it’s about… at that moment, about here and now.
Daniel: Breaking through all barriers of fears of going right or wrong. Trust in creativity and put it to the surface.
What was the biggest problem or biggest difficulty?
Rodrigo: The biggest difficulty was… Despite our feet, or our shoes having a microphone, the challenge was to make our sound reach the same height or volume as the musicians.
Ana Luiza: Sometimes, I put my foot down with all my energy and, even so, we couldn’t reach the same volume as the musicians.
Renata: Sometimes there was an unevenness in the ground because it could be a sidewalk, an open space, a square.
What is your favorite song from the show?
Daniel: As it is a very live show, I would say that the favorite song depends on the moment. There were different situations. In each show, one different song could be the favorite.
Ale: Autumn Leaves. It’s a solo that I play with Ana. And we’ll find out what happens right away. Total freedom.
Ana Luiza: When the time came for us to play I’ve Got Rhythm.
Renata: One musician at a time played. I really liked this piece. He had a special glow.
What is your best memory of the show?
Lucas: Ale Brant on bass and me on guitar, we’re holding the base all the time. And one of those situations that at the end of the song Dani was out of the drums. He signaled me to finish the song, picked up the stick and threw it.
Daniel: And it didn’t work out really well? He made the sentence and the plate fell just in time.
Alexandre: We celebrated like a goal.
Lucas: What a pity for those who didn’t see it.
If you could change anything, what would it be?
Ale: Change something?
Renata: Dancing Brazilian songs.
Daniel: I would add Brazilian songs.
Alexandre: I would put Brazilian songs.
Alê: I would play Brazilian music instead of Jazz.
Ana: I would change my lightness from the beginning, when entering the scene, on stage.
Lucas: We arrived in a format of the current show that is very interesting for those who are watching. And for people who are doing it too.
What are you most proud of and what do you miss?
Ale: The guys weren’t there to be professional. We were there to make art. It is my greatest pride of work.
Ana Luiza: The way we do something that is apparently simple, like an improvisation session. And how we tried to communicate so that other people could understand how an improvisation session is structured.
Alexandre: We arrive on stage and we never know what will happen.
Ale: After 2 years of pandemic, the stage.
Lucas: Being able to perform normally with theatre, with an audience, with audience interaction.
Rodrigo: Being on stage with the uncertainty of what to do. But also, very open to all possibilities.
Daniel: Experiences during travel. The moment of stage play. The feedback from the audience. I miss everything and all of them.
Ana Luiza: Being on stage. This show really happens with the vibrancy of the audience.
Alexandre: That makes me want to be always doing it. I really miss this show.
Ale: Is that it? Guys, that’s it… Don’t hang up yet, no… That’s it. Ah! Love you all!
